St. Labre Indian Catholic School is seeking a skilled Cook II to join our team in the Food Services department. As a key member of our kitchen staff, you will play a vital role in ensuring the efficient and safe operation of our kitchen facilities.
Job SummaryThe Cook II will assist the Head Cook in maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient kitchen environment. This includes preparing meals according to a planned menu, assisting with food preparation, and ensuring that all food and non-food supplies are properly stored and managed.
Key Responsibilities- Assist the Head Cook in all areas of the kitchen, including food preparation, cooking, and cleaning.
- Prepare side dishes and finish preparation of entrees according to specified recipes and techniques.
- Adjust food preparation and quantities based on average daily participation, recipes, and menu items.
- Help package meals, ensure all meals are ready for service, and properly handle or reheat meals as needed.
- Follow menu requirements for fresh fruits and vegetables, track inventory, and report to the Head Cook daily.
- Assist with checking and comparing inventories of food and non-food items against supplies needed for menu and food orders.
- Continually observe the serving line during meal times and restock menu items as needed.
- Help with decorating the cafeteria for holidays and special events, and manually wash pots and pans used in food preparation.
- Record food and non-food supplies used and submit information to the Head Cook daily.
- Help put away incoming supplies, mark items with date received, and stock shelves in the storeroom and coolers.
- Count and record food and non-food supplies on hand at the end of each month.
- Report any equipment or facility problems to the Food Service Supervisor or Director.
- Clean, organize, sweep, and mop the storeroom or cooler as assigned.
To be successful in this role, you will need to have a high school diploma or equivalent, and one to six months of related experience and/or training. You must also have a valid Montana driver's license and be able to lift up to 50 pounds of weight while preparing or moving food items and stocking shelves.
Working ConditionsThe work environment is fast-paced and requires attention to detail. You will be working in a kitchen environment with exposure to heat, steam, and cleaning chemicals. You must be able to stand for long periods, walk, bend, push, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. You must also be able to talk or hear, and lift and move up to 50 pounds of weight.
