The Residential Services Supervisor plays a crucial role in overseeing, mentoring, and offering technical support to designated Supported Living Specialists and program participants. This position not only involves direct assistance to participants but also includes coaching and guiding the Supported Living Specialists. Key responsibilities entail collaborating with the Residential Team Leader to manage daily operations, ensuring high-quality support in a residential environment, and stepping in for Supported Living Specialists during scheduled absences or emergencies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advocate for and protect the rights of participants within the program.
- Contribute to service planning, including the preparation of individual Plans of Care (POCs) and attending participant staffing meetings.
- Supervise and ensure the effective implementation of training programs outlined in participants' Personal Support Plans (PSPs), promoting the development of independent living skills.
- Assist Supported Living Specialists in empowering participants to make decisions that enhance their community presence.
- Assess the support needs of each participant and provide recommendations to Supported Living Specialists.
- Manage and maintain current inventory lists for participants.
- Coordinate and monitor participant health needs, including routine and emergency medical appointments, as well as medication management.
- Support Supported Living Specialists in providing personal hygiene assistance, including bathing, toileting, and dressing.
- Participate in training seminars, in-service training, and staff meetings, contributing to the development and implementation of training initiatives.
- Assist in creating nutritional menus and preparing shopping lists.
- Foster professional relationships with colleagues, supervisors, and key personnel.
- Monitor vital signs and general health of participants, including temperature, blood pressure, and hydration.
- Collaborate with the Team Leader and Residential Nurse to coordinate medical support.
- Prepare shift schedules and facilitate smooth shift transitions.
- Identify and address facility maintenance issues, including conducting safety checks and identifying potential hazards.
- Ensure timely and accurate submission of monthly documentation, including medication logs and case notes.
- Maintain confidentiality and current records for all participants.
- Assist in the intake process for new participants through assessments of independent living skills.
- Provide mentorship and supervision to Supported Living Specialists.
- Ensure participants are appropriately dressed and that clothing is well-maintained.
- Oversee transportation arrangements and ensure they are properly maintained.
- Monitor home upkeep and ensure compliance with agency standards.
- Regularly reconcile participant financial accounts.
- Manage the home budget for labor, supplies, and food, directing purchases as necessary.
- Stay informed about state and federal compliance regulations.
- Participate in an on-call rotation as required.
- Handle hiring, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions, as well as review staff time sheets and grievances.
- Monitor medication administration and related documentation.
- Maintain 24-hour availability for the assigned home during the workweek.
- Ensure compliance with training requirements as per agency policies and regulations.
- Oversee staff training compliance and documentation using an electronic medical record (EMR) system.
- Ensure accurate input of participant information and case notes into the EMR, adhering to agency procedures and regulations.
- Perform additional support services and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree is preferred in fields such as Rehabilitation, Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Special Education, or related Social Sciences. Relevant experience or specialized education may substitute for degree requirements on a year-for-year basis.
- At least six months of experience (paid or unpaid) or training in providing direct care to individuals in human services.
- A minimum of one year of supervisory experience in a residential setting is preferred.
- Must meet agency insurance criteria for operating vehicles for agency business.
Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated commitment to fostering a supportive residential services environment. Proficient in direct participant training and documentation. Strong mentorship capabilities. Effective communication skills with staff, participants, and the public. Reliable transportation and a good driving record are essential. Proficient in using computers and electronic medical record systems, with the ability to learn new software applications.
Licenses/Certifications:
Valid Alaska Driver's License, Certification in Adult CPR, and agency-provided certifications in First Aid, Safety-Care, and QBC.
Immunization Requirements:
Annual PPD Test and Hepatitis B immunization (or waiver).
Working Conditions:
Medium work involving exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently.
Physical Activities:
Includes lifting, talking, and driving as per state law requirements.
Environmental Conditions:
No substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
