Aircraft Mechanic Job Description

This position is for an Aircraft Mechanic, responsible for performing maintenance and repair tasks on aircraft systems, assemblies, and surfaces. The ideal candidate will have experience with aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul, as well as the ability to work in a team environment.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform preventive maintenance, repair, and ground testing of aircraft systems, assemblies, and surfaces.
  • Install, align, and make adjustments to major components and assemblies, such as engines, propellers, transmissions, and hydraulic systems.
  • Conduct ground functional tests of all aircraft systems.
  • Plan and conduct flight training programs for drill status crew chiefs, including maintenance instruction and ground handling of aircraft.
  • Accomplish or monitor the performance of periodic inspections, daily inspections, refueling/defueling of aircraft, and all servicing operations.
  • Perform duties as a Flight Mechanic/Flight Engineer, including pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight duties.
Requirements:
  • Must have at least 18 months of specialized experience installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting, and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneumatic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification.
  • Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment.
  • Must have the ability to instruct lower-graded mechanics, military, and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash-damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls.
Working Conditions:

Work is performed both inside and outside, with frequent exposure to drafts, changing temperatures, and noise. When outside, the incumbent is exposed to bad weather, in mud or snow, and in wet or icy areas. The incumbent is frequently exposed to irritations or discomfort from dust, heat, fumes, and hard damp floors or ground.
