Job Title: Principal Hardware Designer

At Sanmina Corporation, we are seeking a highly skilled Principal Hardware Designer to join our Advanced Microsystems Technologies (AMT) team. As a key member of our design engineering group, you will be responsible for developing next-generation PAM4 / Coherent optical transceivers.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will have a strong background in RF and optical design, with experience in modeling tools such as CST or HFSS. You will work closely with our cross-functional product development team to architect and design optical transceivers that meet customer specifications from concept to pre-production.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the design of optical transceivers, including schematic capture, circuit simulation, PCB design guidance, and design verification testing.
  • Collaborate with customers, partners, and internal teams to ensure design specifications are met.
  • Develop and maintain documentation of hardware design specifications.
  • Ensure design for performance, manufacturability, and cost.
  • Interface with mechanical engineers, optical engineers, microelectronics engineers, firmware engineers, process engineers, and test engineers.
  • Review simulations of high-speed interfaces.
  • Create firmware requirement documentation.
  • Lead design reviews as required.
  • Create BOMs and ECOs to document design.
  • Interact with program managers, buyers/planners, and suppliers to ensure designed parts are available in a timely manner.
  • Resolve DFM issues.
  • Work with rel-qual compliance group to design fully compliant optical transceivers.
  • Troubleshoot and improve yield of optical transceivers.
  • Serve as a technical resource for junior engineers.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 15 years of related experience.
  • Experience in RF design using modeling tools such as CST or HFSS.
  • Experience in full previous optical transceiver design cycle.
  • Familiarity with high-speed (RF) and optoelectronic devices.
  • Work experience with optical components.
  • Experience with optical transceiver test methodologies.
  • Knowledge of various optical transceivers in CWDM and DWDM networks.
  • Familiarity with industry standards, including IEEE Ethernet standards and OIF standards.
