Job Summary:
The Steward position at Houston Methodist is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment in the central kitchen and patient tray line. This role performs various tasks related to dishwashing, sanitation, and food preparation, ensuring compliance with regulatory agencies and hospital policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate dishwashing equipment, sort and rinse dishes, and transport clean tray components to designated areas.
- Wash and sanitize equipment, floors, and walls in the dish room and adjoining areas, and transport trash and supplies to assigned locations.
- Work in the pot room washing pots manually and by machine, following established procedures.
- Assemble patient trays, plate food according to patient menus, and transport food carts and supplies to and from the kitchen.
- Communicate with peers and management regarding hazards in the workplace, follow correct procedures for cleaning and sanitation, and report accidents promptly.
Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent education preferred.
- One year experience in food service or housekeeping preferred.
- Food Handlers Permit required, obtained through accredited training course approved by the Texas Department of State Health Services or the American National Standards Institute.
Working Conditions:
This role requires working in a fast-paced environment, following established procedures, and adhering to regulatory agencies' standards. The Steward must be able to adapt to changing situations, prioritize tasks, and work effectively in a team environment.
