MITRE is seeking a highly skilled Microgrid Systems Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our Energy, Environmental, Material, and Chemical Sciences Department, you will be responsible for identifying and integrating microgrid technologies to strengthen energy resilience and readiness.
Key Responsibilities:
- Microgrid Technology Assessment: Conduct analytical, model-based, and experimental assessments to identify microgrid technologies and their integration and/or deployment challenges.
- Future Trends Evaluation: Evaluate future microgrid technology scientific- and market-driven trends and overall limitations in unique MITRE customer environments.
- Risk Assessment and Remediation: Assess, identify, and propose remediation actions for energy risks, threats, and vulnerabilities for both fixed facilities and mobile microgrid applications.
- Technology Development and Deployment: Execute high-risk, high-reward technology development and deployment, along with field demonstrations and energy exercises.
- Collaboration and Subject Matter Expertise: Collaborate with transdisciplinary experts from across MITRE, our customers, and partners, providing subject matter expertise in energy resilience, energy management, and associated technologies.
- Energy Infrastructure Design and Evaluation: Design and evaluation of a wide variety of energy infrastructure and energy management technologies to determine courses of action to meet customer requirements.
- Technology Performance and Cost Communication: Frame and communicate technology performance and cost in customer applications.
- Outcome Assessment and Verification: Manage outcome assessments that promote measuring, monitoring, and verification of advanced energy technologies in field demonstrations and operational exercises.
Requirements:
- Education and Experience: BS and 5 years of relevant experience in one of the following fields: Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and/or a related Energy/Power Engineering Systems degree.
- Technical Expertise: Deep technical expertise in one or more microgrid technology areas, including: controls algorithms, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), network communications, power systems engineering, power electronics, energy management, energy efficiency, power generation, distributed energy resources, renewables integration, and/or energy storage.
- Communication and Collaboration Skills: Strong technical writing and oral presentation skills, with the ability to conduct research and development of new technologies to meet customer requirements in a collaborative environment with both internal and external researchers.
- Clearance and Citizenship: Applicants selected for this position will be subject to a U.S. government security investigation and must be able to obtain a Department of Defense SECRET clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
- Hybrid Work Arrangement: This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site work arrangement.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced Education: MS or PhD in one of the following areas: Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and/or a related Energy/Power Engineering Systems degree.
- Extensive Experience and Expertise: Extensive experience and expertise, including recent publications, in the design and evaluation of microgrids and microgrid component technologies.
- Broad Energy Knowledge: Basic understanding of a broad range of energy storage, energy conversion, energy harvesting technologies, power distribution, and power management systems.
