Key Responsibilities
This role is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan repayment assistance program. Candidates must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with policy and submit their EDRP application within a designated timeframe. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the Education Loan Repayment Services program office after a complete review of the EDRP application.
Role of the Pharmacy Specialist:
This position serves as a certified Pharmacy Specialist within the healthcare system. Pharmacy Specialists at this level are nationally certified and operate above the full performance level. They work independently, utilizing sound judgment to execute a comprehensive range of responsibilities. Pharmacy specialists at this level may mentor or train lower-grade technicians in the practice environment. Assist the Pharmacist in delivering optimal care and timely service in alignment with the mission, vision, and goals of the healthcare system and Pharmacy.
Responsibilities include:
- Accurately interpret, fill, and prepare prescriptions with appropriate medications and/or medical supplies for Pharmacist verification.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area by ensuring that all stock and equipment are in designated places and that all surfaces are free of dust and debris to create an optimal work environment.
- Record expiration dates in the automated prescription dispensing system upon receipt.
- Conduct monthly inspections of assigned areas to ensure proper storage of medications and remove soon-to-expire drugs.
- Demonstrate the ability to work under various circumstances to maximize group productivity and quality.
- Take an active role in the overall pharmacy training program, which includes students, externs, interns, residents, and both professional and non-professional staff members.
- Complete all mandatory training in a timely manner.
- Comply with all regulations, directives, policies, and procedures related to the healthcare system and Pharmacy.
- Document all controlled substance items in automated secured cabinets as assigned.
- Ensure proper handoffs occur when receiving or delivering controlled substances, ensuring that these medications are never left unsecured.
- Report any discrepancies to the immediate supervisor for resolution and assist with investigations as needed.
- Display competence with good manufacturing practices and sterile techniques through demonstration and/or work performance.
- Follow guidelines for the compounding of all sterile preparations.
- Assemble prescriptions accurately with the correct drug, strength, quantity, auxiliary labels, and prescription labels for dispensing.
- Verify that patients receive the correct prescription using the appropriate software.
- Package prescriptions securely to ensure they are not damaged during transit.
- Utilize and understand mail shipping programs.
- Perform searches, update patient information, and generate shipping reports.
