Position Summary

Senior Claims Analyst, Property and Inland Marine

Crum & Forster, part of the Fairfax Financial Holdings group, is seeking a Senior Claims Analyst to oversee claims within the Property Division. This role entails taking responsibility for the outcomes of various claims assigned to you. We are in search of a proactive individual who thrives in a collaborative claims environment. The Senior Claims Analyst will manage a diverse portfolio of property and inland marine claims, including but not limited to Motor Truck Cargo, Contractor's Equipment, Builder's Risk, and Quota Share Property Claims. The selected candidate will work closely with both the property claims team and the underwriting team, operating under appropriate supervision and established authority. This position reports directly to the Senior Vice President of Property and Inland Marine claims and is available as a remote opportunity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a diverse range of first and third-party claims, including Inland Marine and Commercial Property claims across various jurisdictions.
  • Analyze claims to verify coverage applicability and evaluate exposure across a variety of claims.
  • Engage with claimants and stakeholders, assess documentation, understand coverage nuances, evaluate exposure, set reserves, and process payments.
  • Determine the necessary investigative methods and extent for each claim.
  • Review underwriting files, policies, and relevant legal documents.
  • Maintain prompt communication with all interested parties.
  • Draft necessary position letters for claimants and/or insured parties.
  • Manage litigated claims towards a timely and fair resolution.
  • Effectively manage and budget external vendors, including independent adjusters and legal counsel.
  • Collaborate with management across all levels of the claims department to strategize and provide recommendations on claims exceeding assigned authority.
  • Prepare reports, document claim files, and review outstanding files for adequacy and timeliness in investigation, evaluation, and reserving.
  • Assess recovery potential and work with external recovery firms to coordinate recovery efforts.
  • Deliver superior customer service to policyholders and external partners throughout the claims process.
  • Complete assigned special projects and tasks while meeting deadlines.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of five years of experience in handling property and/or inland marine claims.
  • A college degree along with relevant designations or insurance-related coursework.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with claimants, insured parties, underwriters, legal professionals, and management.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong time management skills to prioritize workload and address time-sensitive issues related to coverage and liability.
  • Proficient negotiation skills and the capability to work independently.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with meticulous attention to detail in reviewing complex documents.
  • Required to obtain and maintain state adjuster licenses.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and claims management software.
  • Occasional travel may be necessary.
