The Multifunctional Equipment Integration Group within the Building and Transportation Science Division (BTSD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is on the lookout for skilled candidates to take on a Postdoctoral Research Associate role. Key Responsibilities:
- The selected candidate will undertake, coordinate, and report on intricate research tasks related to energy conversion systems, including:
- Development of prototypes
- Material synthesis and evaluation
- Performance assessment
- Data analysis
- Preparation of research publications
- Design and implement experimental setups, troubleshoot issues, conduct experimental campaigns, perform materials synthesis and evaluation, fabricate sub-components, optimize processes, and prepare technical documentation and research papers.
- Collaborate and engage with researchers from academic institutions, national laboratories, and the private sector.

Basic Qualifications:
- A Ph.D. in materials science, chemical engineering, chemistry, or a closely related discipline obtained within the last five years.
- Proven background and experience in:
- Composite ceramic materials associated with solid oxide cells (e.g., SOFCs, SOECs, RSOCs, etc.)
- Design and operation of high-temperature processing equipment and experimental thermal/fluid systems
- Electrochemical systems and instrumentation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with catalysis, surface science, and analytical instruments focusing on thermal characterization.
- Experience in prototype development.
- Skills in generating innovative ideas and writing proposals.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, along with excellent interpersonal abilities.
- A demonstrated record of publications in relevant fields.
Special Requirements:
Candidates must have completed their Ph.D. within five years prior to application and fulfill all degree requirements before commencing their appointment. The duration of the appointment may extend up to 24 months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability.
