Framingham, Massachusetts, United States Abode Energy Management Full time

Abode Energy Management is a fast-growing energy efficiency program implementor in the northeast, focusing on electrification and heat pump adoption.

Job Summary

This role is for an experienced Field Inspector to join our team in ensuring quality delivery of residential energy assessment and weatherization services for the utility-sponsored Mass Save program. You will conduct in-depth inspections of projects undertaken for this program through a blend of field visits (both in-process and post-completion) and reviews of photo-documentation of installations.

We are seeking a skilled professional with previous hands-on experience in residential energy efficiency contracting to work largely independently in the field to ensure impactful delivery of these services.

About the Role

This Field Inspector position reports to the Field Operations Manager and partners with Home Performance Contractors (HPCs), residential customers, and Abode office staff to ensure that work completed under the Mass Save program meets program standards, is high quality, and delivers a great customer experience.

The responsibilities include:

  • Staying current with Mass Save program rules and best practices.
  • Communicating regularly with Abode field and office staff as needed to do so, including regularly scheduled virtual meetings as well as periodic meetings at Abode headquarters.
  • Traveling to multiple homes (typically 4 or more) each weekday throughout the state (typically concentrated in a geographic region) for inspections.
  • Providing real-time feedback and guidance to HPC field crews regarding project scope or implementation to ensure they are in compliance with program and best practice guidelines (including safety).
  • Responding to and helping to address customer concerns about projects.
  • Conducting diagnostic testing (e.g. combustion safety, blower door, and infrared scans) to assess the potential health risks and efficacy of work scoped or completed by HPCs.
  • Collecting and entering data into the company's electronic forms for project tracking.
  • Analyzing recommended and installed measures for program eligibility, sound building science, and suitable installation techniques.
  • Creating comprehensive reports shared with HPCs and utility Program Administrators that grade completed work, and when necessary, require call-backs.

We offer a competitive salary of $72,000 per year, with opportunities for additional earnings up to $15,000 per year based on performance. A mileage reimbursement will be provided for personal vehicle use on company business.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Extensive hands-on knowledge of residential building science and of Mass Save or similar programs.
  • BPI Building Analyst Professional (BA-P) certification required; HERS certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate on-job concerns with crews and homeowners, as well as to communicate post-job concerns in a professional manner with Abode staff and participating contractors.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Google Apps and phone and tablet-based data collection.
  • Calm, even temperament suited to dealing with customer service issues.
  • A self-starter, able to proactively manage competing demands and changing schedules to complete tasks in a timely and diligent manner.
  • Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and suitable auto insurance.
  • Associate's degree or higher and/or comparable knowledge gained through relevant experience.
