Job Summary:- The primary function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.
- Experience in blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.
- Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
- Properly explains the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection in a clear and courteous manner.
- Demonstrates technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
- Fully understands all physician orders.
- Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as required by test order.
- Checks all test requisitions or computer labels against script to ensure 100% accuracy.
- Packages specimens for transport.
- Stores specimen samples according to required temperature, accurately labels, and follows different procedures as outlined by specific protocol for transport to maintain specimen integrity.
- Understands and complies with OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Attends annual department trainings.
- Answers telephone calls and reads laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
- Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where employed, as required in some states.
- Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 2+ years of experience.
- Clean driving record.
