Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled HVAC Technician to join our team at the Louisville Metro Government. As an HVAC Technician, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate hand and power tools and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Inspect, service, and repair air conditioning units, heat pumps, electric, oil, and gas furnaces, and ventilating fans and electric motors
  • Monitor inventory levels and order parts, supplies, equipment, and materials
  • Inspect wiring, fuses, and circuit breakers to ensure adequate power to operate the air conditioning unit
  • Clean, service, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on window unit air conditioners and central air conditioning units
  • Discuss malfunctions and failures with department employees to identify problems and necessary repairs
  • Examine malfunctioning units, dismantle whole or parts of units, repair or replace switches, fuses, relays, electrical wiring, copper tubing, fan motors, fans, thermostats, capacitors, compressors, evaporators, and other components
  • Reassemble units after testing and make adjustments to ensure efficient operation
  • Inject freon or other refrigerant into compressors to increase the level to the manufacturer's prescribed operating pressure standard
  • Verify pressure and vacuum gauges and adjust controls to ensure proper operation
  • Operate and use multimeter, voltmeter, ohmmeter, amp meter, circuit tester, freon gauge, freon recovery equipment, vacuum pump, flaring tools, pipe bender, drills, gas and electric leak detectors, saws, grinders, vise, pliers, and screwdrivers
  • Install, inspect, service, and repair pumps, exhaust fans, compressors, air handlers, boilers, chillers, fan coils, duct work, and any piping used for heating and cooling
Requirements
  • Certificate from a two-year vocational program in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning
  • One year of experience in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems installation, maintenance, repair, or inspection
  • Must wear safety equipment as mandated by OSHA
  • Must be certified as a Refrigerant Type III or Universal Technician by the ESCO Institute as required by EPA regulations 40 CFR part 82 subpart F
  • Must differentiate various colors of color-coded wires
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
