The American Association for Cancer Research is seeking a highly skilled Scientific Editor to join our editorial team. This exciting opportunity will see the successful candidate assess submitted manuscripts and referrals, solicit high-quality submissions, write and edit content, and promote the journal through outreach and networking efforts.

About the Role

This full-time position reports to the Editorial Director and is based in Boston or Philadelphia. The Scientific Editor will evaluate initial submissions, collaborate with other journals, communicate with authors and readers, assist with content development, and represent the journal at scientific meetings.

  • Evaluates initial submissions to the journal
  • Collaborates with staff from AACR's nine sibling journals to ensure good communication and promotion of synergistic opportunities
  • Communicates with authors, editors, reviewers, and readers regarding all aspects of the journal
  • Assists with the development, composition, and editing of content
  • Collaborates with the Editor-in-Chief and Senior Editors to identify and attract strong submissions
  • Represents the journal and AACR at scientific meetings and institutional visits
  • Stays abreast of the field and develops excellent relationships with the research community
  • Contributes to policy implementation in conjunction with Editor-in-Chief
Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A PhD or MD
  • Authorization to work in the United States
  • Expertise in cancer science or molecular biology
  • A publication record in cancer research
  • Familiarity with peer review processes
  • The ability to communicate directly with researchers and translate technical scientific content to a diverse readership
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Independence, self-motivation, and a demonstrated ability to take initiative
  • The ability to travel to relevant scientific meetings and research institutes
Compensation and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary range of $80,000 - $110,000 per annum, depending on experience, as well as a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement savings plan, and paid time off.
