Key Responsibilities
  • Formulating and executing risk management strategies, policies, and procedures that align with the organization's goals, regulatory standards, and industry best practices.
  • Guiding and mentoring a team of risk management experts, offering direction, coaching, and support to enhance performance and professional development.
  • Collaborating with senior executives, including the CEO and CFO, to establish risk management objectives, priorities, and financial plans.
  • Identifying, evaluating, and prioritizing risks across all organizational sectors, including operational, financial, regulatory, and reputational risks.
  • Creating and implementing risk mitigation strategies and controls to manage and minimize identified risks to acceptable levels.
  • Conducting risk assessments, audits, and evaluations to measure the effectiveness of risk management processes and controls.
  • Ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements, industry standards, and internal policies, while liaising with regulatory bodies as necessary.
  • Building and sustaining relationships with internal stakeholders, external partners, regulators, and industry organizations to remain informed about industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes.
  • Providing education and training on risk management methodologies, conducting risk assessments, and monitoring trends to proactively identify potential risks and areas for improvement.
  • Working with external legal counsel on litigated matters, responding to discovery requests, and assisting in developing defense strategies.
  • Performing claims analysis, managing files, and collaborating closely with insurance providers.
  • Partnering with third-party administrators to ensure compliance with company guidelines and best practices in claims management.
  • Leading incident investigations and participating in root cause analyses to prevent recurrence.
  • Collaborating with clinical teams to enhance patient safety initiatives.
  • Participating in the management of insurance portfolios, including policy renewals.
  • Providing training and support to staff on risk management practices.
  • Safeguarding the rights of patients, providers, and the facility.
  • Demonstrating exemplary leadership qualities.
  • Encouraging process improvements.
  • Promoting initiatives to protect all assets of the hospital.
  • Exhibiting professionalism in communication, appearance, and conduct.
  • Supporting the hospital's mission and values.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of five years of clinical experience and at least seven years in risk management.
  • Proficient computer skills, including the ability to format and present information in both Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Capability to format and present legal and clinical information in both small and large group settings.
Preferred Certifications
  • Certified Professional Healthcare Risk Manager or obtained within two years of hire.
