Culinary Specialist
The Culinary Specialist is responsible for food preparation and portion control in a school cafeteria setting. This role involves working with the Cafeteria Manager to ensure readiness of food for lunch, preparing food according to dietary and health guidelines, and implementing a cooking program that meets established standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Food Preparation: Prepare food for lunch following dietary and health guidelines.
Cooking Program: Implement a cooking program that includes obtaining needed quantities of food and supplies, washing, trimming, cooking, and seasoning of all required food items, and determining when food is fully cooked using established guidelines and thermometer.
Sanitation and Safety: Maintain proper rotation of food to assure top quality and freshness, create portions for individual servings using accepted guidelines, and adhere to safety policies and report all accidents in accordance with procedure.
Requirements:
Education: High School diploma preferred, formal training in the food service field and/or nutrition and dietetic training.
Experience: Work experience in food service within a facility of comparable size.
Skills: Good interpersonal working skills, excellent customer service skills, and good organizational and communication skills.
Working Conditions:
The Culinary Specialist will work in a school cafeteria environment, Monday through Friday, 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. May be required to work overtime occasionally.
