Oncology Hospitalist Physician Assistant Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Physician Assistant to join our Oncology Hospitalist team at RWJBarnabas Health. As a key member of our team, you will provide medical evaluations and ongoing medication treatment to Oncology patients being co-managed with Oncology specialist physicians.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Participate in data collection related to patients' status and needs.
  • Perform initial hospital admissions and initiate care coordination for patients being admitted either for primary treatment of oncologic issues or medical-surgical issues.
  • Collaborate with specialists and incorporate consultant recommendations into the treatment plan.
  • Provide direct patient care to hospitalized Oncology patients within scope of practice to ensure implementation of the plan of care.
  • Inform and instruct patients/significant others on patients' health/illness state and plan of care.
  • Document clearly all aspects of patient care in the electronic medical record.
  • Administer medications and parenteral therapy in accordance with established policies.
Requirements:
  • At least 2 years of acute care hospital experience.
  • Prior experience as a bedside nurse preferably in oncology, ICU, or ER setting.
  • Prior Oncology experience strongly preferred but not necessary.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Great organization skills, strong interpersonal communication skills, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, flexibility in work roles, team player, ability to multitask, great attention to detail, excellent bedside manners, ability to communicate effectively in the English Language.
