Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled CT Technologist to join our diagnostic imaging team at NCH. As a CT Technologist, you will be responsible for operating computerized tomography (CT) scanners to produce high-quality images for radiologists and physicians to diagnose patients' injuries and/or study body systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare patients for procedures, instructing them on examination protocols and positioning them according to procedure requirements.
  • Explain examination procedures to patients, responding to their questions and utilizing AIDET concepts in all customer interactions.
  • Obtain and provide clinical information and patient history to radiologists for all patient procedures.
  • Administer radiographic contrast media by intravenous injection, following infection control and universal precautions guidelines.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to assess, treat, and care for patients of all ages, implementing assessment, treatment, and care based on developmental stages.
  • Operate CT scanners to provide radiologists with optimum quality images, communicating preliminary interpretations to appropriate individuals as applicable.
  • Schedule patients and work at the reception station as needed.
  • Retrieve medications that are not controlled substances.
  • Maintain order and sanitary conditions of the work environment, checking operating conditions of equipment and ensuring cleanliness of exam rooms.
  • Supervise student activities in the work area, assisting in training and evaluation.
  • Assume responsibility for own professional growth by attending Continuing Education classes, seminars, and reading professional journals.
  • Adhere to departmental and hospital safety standards, attending all mandatory safety inservice education programs.
  • Perform on-call duties as scheduled.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited school in Radiologic Technology.
  • ARRT certification in CT and current registration.
  • Current Illinois Emergency Management Agency license.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience in the correct use of body mechanics.
  • CPR certification through the American Heart Association.
  • The interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with patients who may be anxious or confused and to interact with physicians and other hospital staff.
  • The analytical ability to determine proper patient positioning and scanning parameters based on suspected pathology, patient size and age, and other controlling factors.
  • The written and verbal communication skills necessary to document patient procedures, inform patients regarding procedures, and communicate radiologists' interpretation.
  • The ability to maintain a flexible work schedule and fulfill on-call responsibilities.
Physical Requirements
  • Moderate physical effort, requiring continuous standing or walking, frequent lifting or moving of average weight material, and occasional lifting or moving of heavy weight material.
  • Flow of work and character of duties involve concentrated mental/visual attention and manual coordination.
Working Conditions
  • Conditions are acceptable, with at least one disagreeable element or hazard present in the environment, and occasional exposure to infectious diseases.
