The Lead Cashier plays a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient operation of the front end by managing cashiering activities, training and supervising cashiers, delivering exceptional customer service, and supporting overall store functions.
Key Responsibilities:
Essential Duties:
1. Delivering outstanding customer service and fostering a positive shopping experience as the top priority.
2. Upholding integrity, accountability, and excellence while adhering to all company policies.
3. Training cashiers and ensuring they effectively communicate about the {N}Power program to customers.
4. Informing customers about our commitment to donate $.05 to the local food bank for every transaction involving a reusable bag.
5. Educating customers on essential nutrients and promoting store events and seminars.
6. Completing the Daily Sales Report (DSR) and managing cashier closeout duties.
7. Issuing and verifying cash drawers, handling returns, and managing overrides at the front end.
8. Addressing customer complaints in a professional manner.
9. Ensuring that the front end displays are fully stocked and well-maintained.
10. Overseeing the daily completion of front end tasks.
11. Maintaining all register documentation.
12. Directing cashiers during slower periods at the register.
13. Performing general cashiering duties, including operating the cash register, bagging groceries, and providing carry-out service.
14. Monitoring and conducting cart checks.
15. Answering phone inquiries and assisting with special orders.
16. Learning product locations across all departments to assist customers effectively.
17. Participating in tagging, facing, rotating, cleaning, markdowns, stocking, and backstock as necessary.
18. Adapting to a flexible schedule based on store needs, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. This position typically requires a commitment of five days and 40 hours per week, along with attendance at mandatory store meetings.
This role includes limited Manager on Duty responsibilities but is not intended to serve as the overall Manager on Duty for the store.
All employees are expected to be proactive and willing to perform any necessary tasks to ensure the success of the company.
Qualifications:
Essential Skills:
1. High School diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.
2. Previous retail experience in a grocery or retail setting is preferred; a background in natural foods is advantageous.
3. At least 1 year of cashiering experience is preferred.
4. Supervisory experience of at least 1 year is preferred.
5. Ability to complete food safety training and maintain required certifications.
7. A sense of urgency in completing tasks.
8. Excellent customer service abilities.
9. Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
10. Ability to follow directions and execute tasks effectively.
11. Must be trained in cashiering and capable of accurately handling currency.
12. Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
