The GEICO Cloud Efficiency and Optimization Team is in search of a seasoned Senior Software Architect who is dedicated to developing high-performance, low-maintenance, and zero-downtime platforms and applications.
Your role will be pivotal in steering our insurance business transformation as we evolve from a conventional IT framework to a technology-driven organization focused on engineering excellence, while collaboratively fostering a culture of psychological safety and ongoing enhancement.
Role ResponsibilitiesAs a Senior Software Architect, you will:
- Concentrate on various domains and provide technical and strategic leadership across the enterprise.
- Engage with product managers, team members, clients, and other engineering teams to tackle our most challenging issues.
- Formulate and implement a technical software development strategy across diverse domains.
- Ensure the quality, usability, and performance of the solutions delivered.
- Utilize programming languages such as Java or other object-oriented languages, SQL, and NoSQL databases, along with Container Orchestration services like Docker and Kubernetes, and a variety of Azure tools and services.
- Act as a role model and mentor, aiding in the development and enhancement of the technical skills and knowledge within our engineering and product community.
- Influence and educate leadership.
- Regularly share best practices and refine processes within and across teams.
- Analyze costs and forecasts, integrating them into business strategies.
- Identify and support resource needs, assess operational processes, measure outcomes to ensure desired results, and promote adaptability and continuous learning.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Exceptional ability to design, conduct experiments, and influence engineering direction and product strategy.
- Experience collaborating with engineering teams and transitioning research into production.
- Proficiency in continuous delivery and infrastructure as code.
- Comprehensive knowledge of computer science data structures and algorithms.
- Experience in resolving analytical challenges using quantitative methods.
- Adeptness in a dynamic, startup-like environment.
- Familiarity with developer tools throughout the software development lifecycle (task management, source control, building, deployment, operations, real-time communication).
- Fluency and specialization in at least two modern programming languages such as Java, C++, Python, or C#.
- Experience with microservices architecture and extensible REST APIs.
- Expertise in designing and architecting new and existing systems.
- Knowledge of DevOps principles, Cloud Architecture, and Azure DevOps frameworks.
- Experience with application monitoring tools and performance evaluations.
- In-depth understanding of data center structures, capabilities, and offerings, particularly with the Azure platform and its native services.
Applicants should have:
- 10+ years of professional software development experience within a Java framework.
- 8+ years of experience in architecture and design.
- 6+ years of experience with open-source frameworks.
- 4+ years of experience with cloud services such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
A Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience is required.
