Job Summary

The Psychiatric Registered Nurse provides specialized nursing care to patients with mental health and behavioral disorders. This role requires close collaboration with an interdisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans, administer medications, and monitor patients' progress in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Care:
    • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans for patients with psychiatric conditions.
    • Administer prescribed medications and monitor patients for side effects and therapeutic effectiveness.
    • Monitor and record patients' behavioral and physical health conditions, reporting any changes to the healthcare team.
    • Provide crisis intervention and stabilization to patients experiencing acute psychiatric symptoms.
    • Assist in developing therapeutic relationships with patients to facilitate treatment goals.
  • Collaboration:
    • Work closely with psychiatrists, social workers, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate comprehensive care.
    • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and case conferences to discuss patient care plans and progress.
    • Communicate effectively with patients' families and caregivers, providing education and support as needed.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Ensure a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors by adhering to safety protocols and policies.
    • Perform routine safety checks and conduct de-escalation techniques when necessary.
    • Document all patient care activities accurately and in a timely manner, maintaining compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Patient Education and Support:
    • Provide education to patients and their families about psychiatric conditions, treatment options, and coping strategies.
    • Encourage patient participation in their care plan, promoting self-care and healthy lifestyle choices.
Qualifications
  • Education:
    • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN preferred).
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a psychiatric or behavioral health setting preferred.
  • Certifications:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
    • Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing certification (RN-BC) preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Strong assessment and clinical skills with the ability to manage patients with complex psychiatric needs.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
    • Ability to remain calm and handle emergencies or crisis situations with professionalism.
Work Environment

Inpatient psychiatric units, outpatient clinics, emergency departments, or community health settings.

Physical Requirements

Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting and transferring patients, prolonged standing, and working in a fast-paced environment.
