Job Summary

MedStar Health is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Peer Recovery Coach to join our team. As a Peer Recovery Coach, you will play a vital role in supporting patients in their recovery journey from substance use disorders.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide non-clinical services to patients, including peer assessment, intervention, and support to patients and their families.
  • Conduct brief interventions to patients who screen positive for substance use, and identify their history of use, treatment history, motivation to change behavior, and other needs for community support services.
  • Use motivational interviewing techniques and other communication skills to support patients in developing a plan to reduce or eliminate harmful substance use.
  • Assist patients and their families in understanding how to utilize community services and substance treatment services, including securing appointments and transportation.
  • Act as a peer support throughout the hospitalization and post-discharge, as appropriate, to attain goals.
  • Maintain current knowledge and gain new knowledge through training and participation in staff and other meetings.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 1-2 years of professional experience working in a recovery program.
  • Actively engaged in their own recovery program for at least three years, with sustained abstinence from substance use.
  • Certified Peer Recovery Specialist or Certified Peer Recovery Coach.
