Overview:

The Surgical Services RN is a vital member of the healthcare team, specializing in perioperative nursing practices. This role encompasses a range of responsibilities during surgical interventions, ensuring the safety and well-being of patients throughout the procedure. The RN will oversee the management of surgical personnel, equipment, and supplies, while facilitating effective communication among the surgical team members in sterile environments. Additionally, this position serves as a patient advocate, educator, and a model of best practices in nursing care.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Analyze clinical and diagnostic information, identifying abnormalities and communicating findings to the medical team.

2. Ensure the accuracy and completeness of patient records, while assessing individual patient needs.

3. Exhibit comprehensive knowledge of surgical protocols by initiating appropriate nursing interventions, coordinating necessary supplies, and demonstrating proficiency in the use of various medical equipment. Maintain a safe, organized, and hygienic surgical environment.

4. Accurately document all relevant information, including counts of sponges and instruments, intravenous fluids administered, medications given, blood loss, and any implants utilized.

5. Participate in ongoing education and training sessions, including safety protocols, Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), as well as attending staff meetings.

6. Participate in the on-call rotation as designated by the Operating Room Manager.

7. Undertake additional duties as assigned or delegated by supervisory staff.

Additional Duties:

1. Adhere to all applicable local, state, and federal regulations and standards.

Qualifications:

1. Graduate from an accredited nursing program.

2. Possession of a current professional nursing license.

3. Maintenance of current certifications in BLS and ACLS.
