Job Summary

The Radiology Administrator provides consultative and administrative support to the Radiology Service and Chief, Radiology Service as needed, and to provide effective liaison for administrative activities so that daily operations are handled expeditiously.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a principal advisor to the Service Chief, Radiology Service.
  • Participates in the overall administrative, operational management, decision-making, policy development and resource allocation and utilization for the Service.
  • Provides administrative and analytical expertise and works independently and closely on a day-to-day basis with the Service Chief in planning, identifying, resolving, and implementing complex management programs and policies related to the operation of the Radiology Service.
  • Makes proposals based on professional observations and analyses to modify or change procedures and policies as well as initiate suggestions for new policies designed to enhance the efficiency of the operations of the service.
  • Prepares the appropriate documents and coordinates quarterly meetings of both the Radiation Safety Committee and the MRI Safety Committee including maintaining copies of minutes of all Committee meetings as required.
  • Serves as an expert on data collection and analysis and participates in the development of strategies for implementation of projects or policy changes.
  • Extracts and assembles information, conducts analysis, and develops reports for presentations.
  • Provides administrative staff support in short and long-range planning efforts.
  • Promotes team building and improvement of business practices.
  • Ensures compliance with national guidance and directives in preparing annual and cyclic planning documents.
  • Acts as a resource to supervisory staff for report development, data collection processes, and presentation requirements to result in consistent product.
  • Develops and maintains monthly audits for the Radiology Residency and student service programs for multiple Universities and Colleges.
  • Maintains accurate attendance and thorough PACS reports to universities to ensure quality assurance with ongoing summaries which measure quality and productivity for radiologists, fellows, residents, students, and their peer comparisons.
  • Reviews Radiology Service clinic utilization and service wait times with the Service Chief, radiology supervisors and facility access coordinators to adjust radiology availability to suit the needs of the Veterans and the healthcare system.
  • Reviews and remediates, as appropriate, open encounters and tracks and trends radiology related consults.
  • Is the primary liaison between Human Resources and Radiology Service.
  • Is responsible for maintenance and oversight of personnel files on each employee which includes Agency required standards as well as confidential documents related to compensation, medical accommodations, and disciplinary actions.
  • Maintains original documents/copies and a data base of all approved service position descriptions, functional statements, scopes of practice, competencies, corresponding performance standards and disciplinary actions.

Work Schedule

Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm

  • You must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.

Education Requirement

  • You must have completed a full time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE).
  • All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R).
  • Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments that include computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), [or Mammography (M) duties performed independently, as applicable].

Assignment Information

Assignment to this grade level is restricted to those serving as the radiology administrator at medical facilities with comprehensive and complex radiographic and imaging programs.

Work Environment

Most of the work involves sitting but walking, bending, standing, or carrying (medical records up to 10 pounds) may be required.

There is extensive use of a computer and phone.

Minimal travel is required and may be to conferences or other VA facilities.
