Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Diagnostic Medical Sonographer to join our team at Virginia Commonwealth University Health Systems. As a key member of our radiology department, you will be responsible for performing diagnostic ultrasound procedures and providing exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform diagnostic ultrasound procedures on patients of all ages, from newborn to geriatric, for medical purposes.
  • Administer high-frequency sound waves and other diagnostic techniques to produce images for interpretation by licensed independent practitioners.
  • Recognize patient conditions essential for successful completion of procedures and exercise independent professional and ethical judgment.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, licensed independent practitioners, and other members of the support team.
  • Participate in quality improvement processes and continuous assessment of performance.
  • Engage in continuing education to enhance patient care, public education, knowledge, and technical competence.
Requirements
  • Certification by the American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT) as a sonographer ARRT(S) or RDMS or CCI certification in medical sonography or RDCS certification in cardiac sonography or RVT certification as Vascular Technologist.
  • Current Certification by ARRT (S) or RDMS or RDCS or CCI or RVT Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers).
  • One (1) year of previous work experience as a Sonographer/Technologist.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One (1)-3 years of previous work experience as a Sonographer/Technologist.
  • Previous work experience in an academic medical center environment.
Education/Training
  • Graduation from a CAAHEP or CMA Accredited Program in medical/cardiac/vascular sonography or Graduation from a minimum of a 2-year JRC Accredited Program in Radiologic Technology or Sonography that is recognized by the ARRT or Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, JRC-DMS or graduation from a Bachelor's degree program in sonography or vascular sonography.
Working Conditions

This position requires prolonged standing, sitting, walking, and repetitive motion. The Sonographer/Technologist must be able to lift 20-50 pounds and have strong recall, reasoning, problem-solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, reading, and logical thinking skills.

The Sonographer/Technologist must be able to adapt to a fast-paced environment, handle multiple priorities, and frequent and intense customer interactions.
