About the Role

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is seeking a skilled Carpentry Specialist to join our team in the Carpentry Shop. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the installation and maintenance of all carpentry projects in the Museum.

Key Responsibilities
  • Fabrication and/or modification of millwork for special exhibitions, including cases, pedestals, platforms, and other display elements.
  • Assist other trade shops with maintenance of building infrastructure, ensuring a safe and functional environment for our visitors and staff.
  • Perform carpentry-related tasks and special assignments, utilizing your expertise in hand and power tools.
  • Maintain equipment and machinery assigned to the shop, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to achieve shared goals and objectives, fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 to 5 years of carpentry experience, with a strong foundation in wood joinery techniques, framing, and drywall.
  • Knowledge of and experience with hand and power tools, including saws, drills, and sanders.
  • Problem-solving skills to successfully complete gallery installations and special exhibitions assignments, working effectively under pressure and deadlines.
