GENERAL SUMMARY:
The EHS Class Aide plays a crucial role in providing essential support within the Early Head Start classroom. This position may involve working closely with children who have special needs, offering personalized attention to ensure their educational and developmental needs are met. The Class Aide collaborates with the Lead Teacher and other educators to foster a nurturing and stimulating environment for all children.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Collaborate with teaching staff to facilitate daily activities within the Early Head Start center.
2. Provide assistance to children with special needs, as well as support other children during classroom activities, bathroom breaks, mealtimes, outdoor play, and field trips.
3. Aid in the documentation process for children requiring special accommodations.
4. Help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all children.
5. Report any incidents or accidents to the supervisor promptly.
6. Engage in relevant Early Head Start training sessions and attend staff meetings and in-service training as required.
7. Ensure emergency supplies are organized and stored according to established protocols.
8. Work collaboratively with all Head Start/Early Head Start personnel.
9. Understand the responsibilities associated with being a mandated reporter for child abuse and neglect, and adhere to all reporting procedures.
10. Undertake additional tasks as assigned by supervisors.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school diploma or equivalent required.
2. Must possess or obtain a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, with classes to be initiated within six months of hire.
3. Familiarity with program curriculum and developmentally appropriate practices.
4. Ability to engage positively with children and their families.
5. Capable of designing and implementing activities tailored to individual children's needs.
6. Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with colleagues, parents, and management.
7. Basic understanding of child development principles and effective guidance techniques.
8. Maintain a professional demeanor that reflects positively on the organization.
9. Complete a medical examination and TB assessment within the initial employment period and every five years thereafter.
10. Successfully pass background checks, including child abuse/neglect and drug screenings.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
This role involves potential exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and communicable diseases. Candidates must be prepared for travel and the physical demands of lifting children, navigating school buses, and engaging in various physical activities. The position requires standing for extended periods and the ability to perform tasks such as bending, kneeling, and sitting on the floor.
