General Overview
This position serves as a training opportunity for individuals aspiring to join the law enforcement sector. The selected candidate will participate in the Law Enforcement Academy, aiming to fulfill the requirements of the City Police Officer Trainee Program and ultimately achieve certification as a police officer within the City.
Under the guidance of senior officers, trainees will engage in various duties including but not limited to: conducting foot and vehicle patrols throughout the City; preventing criminal activities; identifying and apprehending offenders; managing traffic; offering assistance to the public; and executing all additional responsibilities associated with the rank as mandated by applicable laws, city regulations, and departmental protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Successfully complete the Trainee Program.
- Attend and complete the Law Enforcement Academy.
- Prepare for and pass the State of Florida Law Enforcement Certification Examination.
- Fulfill the prescribed law enforcement training curriculum.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED (Candidates with higher education are preferred).
- Must hold and maintain a valid Florida driver's license.
- Required to pass the State Officer Certification Exam within six months of employment.
- Must pass the POST (Police Officer Selection Test) and complete a writing sample and physical fitness assessment.
- Minimum age requirement of 19 years as per Florida Statutes.
- Certification as a law officer must be obtained within six months of appointment to the trainee role.
- A notarized declaration confirming no tobacco use in the past 12 months is required.
- Completion of the City’s pre-qualification questionnaire and testing process is mandatory.
Additional assessments include:
- Written examination.
- Physical fitness evaluation.
- Oral Review Board.
- CVSA Interview/Examination.
- Comprehensive medical and psychological evaluations conducted by the City’s approved agents.
