Job Summary

The Infection Prevention Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing educational programs for all staff in accordance with Federal, State, and facility policies. This role requires a strong safety awareness for our residents and staff, with flexibility in coverage of RN supervision if needed. The successful candidate will assume a nursing leadership role in the absence of the Director of Nursing and provide initial certification and recertification of AHA BLS for all licensed staff.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement educational programs for staff in accordance with Federal, State, and facility policies
  • Provide initial certification and recertification of AHA BLS for all licensed staff
  • Assume a nursing leadership role in the absence of the Director of Nursing
  • Implement and administer policies and education for the prevention and control of infections
  • Coordinate infection control within established policies and procedures
Requirements
  • Associates Degree in Nursing required; Bachelors Degree in Nursing preferred
  • Current RN license in NYS; BLS required
  • 3-5 years of Infection Control Experience, preferably in a long term care facility
Physical Demands

Excellent verbal and listening skills required for communicating clearly and effectively with others; ability to carry, lift, and/or lower patients or equipment over 50 lbs.
