OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION
The Special Education Instructor will engage in various special education licensure areas. Responsibilities may differ for resource classrooms, self-contained classrooms, and early childhood education settings.
The core responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to, the following essential functions:
*Deliver instruction in the core curriculum and special education disciplines relevant to the position; effectively utilize instructional resources and technologies.
*Create and execute innovative strategies for delivering instruction to special education students.
*Establish a conducive instructional environment tailored to the needs of special education students; ensure that equipment is adapted and materials are modified as necessary.
*Collaborate with other special education personnel to assess the special education requirements of students and to formulate Individual Education Plans (IEPs) that address those needs; implement these plans in accordance with applicable legal standards and district practices.
*Maintain accurate student records to ensure compliance with due process requirements.
*Assess special education student performance in line with the evaluation system used by the school or district; foster student achievement; ensure progress towards IEP goals and objectives; provide necessary reports to parents and educational administration as required.
*Engage with parents of special education students to support their academic development and meet IEP or IFSP objectives; participate in parent-teacher conferences.
*Perform classroom management duties; uphold rules governing student conduct; take appropriate disciplinary measures when necessary.
