About the Position

As a Law Enforcement Officer, you will engage in essential protective service activities, ensuring adherence to laws, investigating criminal incidents, and safeguarding community welfare. This role operates under the guidance of supervisory personnel within the Sheriff's department.
Key Responsibilities
  • Patrol assigned areas in a law enforcement vehicle to monitor for violations of traffic laws, suspicious behavior, and disturbances; respond to dispatch calls and address community concerns.
  • Execute legal documents such as warrants and subpoenas, and perform arrests when necessary, utilizing appropriate restraints.
  • Uphold traffic regulations; issue citations for infractions; conduct radar enforcement, DUI checks, and assist motorists.
  • Support criminal investigations by gathering, documenting, and presenting evidence, interviewing involved parties, and providing testimony in legal proceedings.
  • Transport individuals in custody, including prisoners and mental health patients, to various appointments and court appearances; oversee and maintain the safety of detainees.
  • Compile and maintain various records and reports related to law enforcement activities.
  • Collaborate with fellow law enforcement personnel and agencies on diverse assignments.
Qualifications

Applicants should possess a comprehensive understanding of law enforcement techniques, procedures, and the legal framework of North Carolina. Familiarity with local geography and significant locations is essential. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in the use of firearms and public safety equipment, along with the ability to follow both verbal and written directives effectively. Strong interpersonal skills are necessary for interacting with the public and colleagues, as well as the capacity to assess situations and respond appropriately.
Education and Experience

A high school diploma or GED is required, along with moderate experience in law enforcement or a comparable combination of education and experience.
