Full Time, Days

Position Overview:

  • Facilitate optimal patient care by collaborating with nursing staff, including charge nurses and the Director of Nursing, on a designated unit during their scheduled hours.
  • May be required to be on-call for staffing needs.
  • Support resident care in accordance with the Nursing Practice Act, under the guidance of a Registered Nurse.
  • Assign tasks to non-licensed nursing staff and oversee their performance under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, while assisting in the development of work schedules as necessary.
  • Contribute to Quality Assurance data collection for evaluation and implementation of corrective actions by the Quality Assurance Nurse.
  • Assist with infection control measures for the unit.
  • Comply with all regulations regarding cleanliness, infection control, and Standard Precautions.
  • Help manage records, orders, and assessments for new admissions to the unit, ensuring the initial nursing assessment is completed.
  • Complete assigned resident assessments as directed by the MDS Nurse or Director of Nursing.
  • Participate in scheduled Nurse Department meetings.
  • Assist in monitoring and evaluating decubiti weekly, accurately completing integument watch assessment forms, and collaborating with other departments to address unit and patient needs.
  • Report any potential performance issues of staff to the RN for assessment regarding necessary disciplinary actions. May be requested by the RN to send an employee home for further investigation if needed.
  • Assist with laboratory requests as mandated by facility policy, utilizing appropriate techniques. Responsible for managing lab work as ordered on the unit, reviewing results, and notifying the attending physician according to established policies and protocols.
  • Assist with emergencies that arise during duty hours, performing CPR if necessary, and providing support for emergencies on other units as required.
  • Notify the attending physician of any changes in patient conditions or illnesses within the unit, including emergencies and patient deaths. Implement changes in orders as instructed by the physician.
  • Assist with general duties such as conducting rounds with physicians, verifying MD orders, ensuring timely updates of orders, and confirming the completeness of nursing documentation.
  • May be required to provide coverage in hallways as needed.
  • Assist in coordinating the healthcare team, including the duties and assignments of rehabilitation aides.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Nursing in accordance with NC Board of Nursing Practice Acts.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma required.
  • Must be a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) from an accredited School of Nursing, holding a current, valid license in North Carolina.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide quality nursing care, follow physician orders, and a genuine interest in geriatric nursing.
  • CPR certification required annually, along with participation in in-service training and staff meetings as necessary.
  • Ability to make informed decisions regarding nursing and unit issues, understanding the serious implications of errors and incompetence.
  • Capability to work effectively under pressure, solve problems, and perform a variety of tasks.
  • Familiarity with personnel, departmental, and facility policies and procedures, as well as adherence to local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Able to maneuver medication carts, treatment carts, and other nursing equipment.
