Exciting Opportunity at Marcum LLP

Marcum LLP is a leading national accounting firm seeking a highly skilled Tax Director to join our growing team in Costa Mesa. As a Tax Director, you will play a key role in leading our Tax Real Estate/Construction practice and providing exceptional tax planning and compliance services to our clients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the review of tax returns to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Manage compliance engagements, including scheduling and staff management
  • Perform research and draft memoranda on real estate and construction-related issues
  • Train and supervise staff, reviewing and evaluating their work
  • Make suggestions to improve efficiencies within the department and on engagements
  • Interact closely with clients to provide innovative tax planning, consulting, and compliance services
  • Represent clients with taxing authorities for federal or state examinations
  • Supervise, develop, train, and mentor staff, including performance and engagement reviews
  • Be involved in practice development efforts of the firm
  • Provide on-the-job training to subordinates
  • Assist Partners with engagement budget preparation
  • Review staff work product to ensure firm processes and quality control procedures are being executed
  • Work closely with Partners, Senior Managers, Managers, and staff on client management, professional development, and business development activities
  • Attend professional development and continuing education sessions on a regular basis
Requirements:
  • Masters in Taxation preferred
  • CPA license required
  • 7 or more years of Public Accounting experience with a Real Estate or Construction emphasis
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to communicate effectively with clients, Managers, and Partners
  • Good judgment and the ability to work independently
  • Outstanding work ethic and a willing-to-roll-up-sleeves work attitude
  • Strong writing skills for responding to problem resolutions for tax notices
  • Ability to review engagements and manage multiple clients
  • Knowledge of S Corporation, partnership, and individual taxation a plus
  • Knowledge of CCH Axcess, GoFileRoom, CCH ProSystem fx Engagement a plus
  • Specialization in real estate/construction and experience in preparation and review of both individual and corporate returns and flow-through entity tax areas for the real estate/construction industry
  • Working in the Costa Mesa office three days per week or more is recommended
