Job Summary

The Athletic Trainer will be responsible for providing medical care and support to student-athletes at Duval County Public School. This includes assessing and treating injuries, developing and implementing injury prevention programs, and maintaining accurate records of student-athlete health and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and implement an effective athletic training program for high school athletics, including the maintenance of a clean and organized athletic training facility.
  2. Provide first aid and medical care to student-athletes, including assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries.
  3. Coordinate annual required athletic physicals and supervise the medical clearance of injured athletes prior to and during the sport seasons.
  4. Maintain accurate records of student-athlete health and safety, including daily injury treatment logs and reports associated with athletic injuries and/or incidents.
  5. Assist coaching staff in evaluating and implementing sport-specific conditioning programs and methods, and assist in the selection and fitting of protective medical equipment.
  6. Oversee the ordering of supplies and equipment related to the athletic training facility, and manage an up-to-date inventory.
  7. Create a safe playing environment by monitoring and controlling environmental risks, and performing routine inspections on school AEDs.
  8. Establish educational opportunities for students interested in exploring a career in the health sciences, and share professional literature relative to injury prevention with the school's coaching staff.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training or a related field, and two years of experience in athletic training. A Master's degree is preferred. The candidate must be certified as an Athletic Trainer and maintain current state licensure in accordance with the Florida Board of Athletic Training. Additionally, the candidate must be certified in CPR/Emergency Cardiac Care for the Professional Responder.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The successful candidate will possess strong skills in assessing and treating sports-related injuries, as well as knowledge of sports injury preventative measures. They will also have strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, and be able to develop and manage budgets. The candidate must be able to travel with the varsity and junior varsity football teams to away contests, and be able to handle high amounts of stress associated with injuries.
