POSITION OVERVIEW
The Patient Flow Coordinator acts as the primary authority within the healthcare facility for overseeing daily patient movement.

The main objectives of this role include enhancing hospital efficiency, maximizing inpatient bed usage, and minimizing delays in patient or bed turnover.

This position serves as the key contact for inpatient bed management. Utilizing advanced technology, regular rounds, and effective communication with staff, the Coordinator maintains a comprehensive understanding of the overall bed supply and demand across the facility.

Collaborates with various admission channels (such as the Emergency Department, Supervisory Staff, and Admissions) and inpatient units to anticipate both scheduled and unscheduled bed requirements.

Ensures ongoing communication with admission channels regarding bed status and availability. Works closely with medical staff to evaluate new admissions and allocate the most suitable and available inpatient beds. Makes prompt decisions regarding patient placements.

Maintains regular communication with supervisory staff and collaborates to ensure that the bed management system is consistently updated.

Partners with Case Management and supervisory personnel to facilitate timely discharges as necessary. Conducts rounds on inpatient units to identify and address throughput challenges. Responsible for pinpointing opportunities for throughput enhancements.

QUALIFICATIONS

Educational Background:
Graduate of an accredited Associate or Bachelor of Science in Nursing program is preferred.

Licensure Requirements:
Must possess a current and active nursing license in Georgia. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.

Experience: 3-5 years of clinical experience, with a preference for those with throughput or supervisory experience.

Essential Skills:
Nursing competencies as outlined in the Georgia Nursing Practice Act. Ability to perform independently without assistance or supervision. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills that require creativity and sound decision-making. Excellent interpersonal and management abilities. Proficient oral and written communication skills, along with strong analytical problem-solving capabilities. Comprehensive understanding of hospital systems, processes, and patient flow. Basic proficiency in word processing, email, and computer applications. Familiarity with healthcare management systems is advantageous.

WORK ENVIRONMENT


Operates within a standard acute healthcare setting, engaging with a diverse patient population, including pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric individuals facing a variety of medical and surgical conditions.

This role requires a flexible schedule, including weekends. Must be capable of performing a full range of physical activities, including lifting and moving patients, as well as manual dexterity and coordination. Requires prolonged periods of standing and walking. Occasionally responsible for lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds. Vision and hearing must be corrected to normal ranges. Must be able to work effectively under pressure and in environments with potential exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
