Job Summary

The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services is seeking a highly skilled Substance Abuse Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive assessment, counseling, and consultation services to individuals with substance use disorders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assessment and Treatment Planning: Conduct thorough assessments of patients' physical, mental, psychosocial, and environmental needs, and develop individualized treatment plans to address their unique needs.
  • Counseling and Consultation: Provide one-on-one counseling and consultation services to patients, families, and communities to educate them on substance use and chemical dependency disorders, intervention services, and treatment modalities.
  • Case Management: Coordinate with community referral resources and make referrals to other social or medical resources as needed to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Intervention and Advocacy: Proactively coordinate, facilitate, and advocate for seamless service delivery for individuals dealing with impairments and distress associated with substance use disorders.
  • Community Outreach: Link patients with needed community services for medical, employment, housing, and follow-up care.
  • Crises Intervention: Respond to and intervene in crises related to patients' resource needs and mental health concerns.
Requirements

To qualify for this position, you must have a degree in behavioral or social science, or a related field, or four years of experience in a related field. You must also have a strong understanding of substance use disorders and treatment modalities, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

This position requires a high level of emotional stability, empathy, and understanding of individuals with substance use disorders. You must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
