Key Responsibilities- Pre-Procedure Preparation: Welcome and soothe patients, ensuring they feel comfortable and at ease during treatment.
- Dental Prophylaxis: Clean teeth and gum margins, removing deposits and stains to maintain optimal oral health.
- Disease Detection: Conduct oral cancer screenings, examine gums, and use probes to identify periodontal disease and recession.
- Fluoride Application: Apply cavity-preventing agents to arrest dental decay and promote healthy teeth.
- Emergency Response: Maintain CPR certification, emergency drugs, and oxygen supply, and have a directory of emergency numbers readily available.
- Patient Education: Provide oral hygiene and plaque control instructions, as well as post-operative guidance to ensure patients understand their treatment and care.
- Documentation: Record vital signs, medical and dental histories, and chart patient records to maintain accurate and up-to-date information.
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform preventive maintenance on dental equipment, follow manufacturer instructions, troubleshoot issues, and maintain equipment inventories.
- Supply Management: Check stock levels, anticipate needed supplies, place and expedite orders, and verify receipt of supplies to maintain a well-stocked inventory.
- Professional Development: Stay current with industry developments by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing professional networks, and participating in professional societies.
- License/Certification: Registered Dental Hygienist required.
- Product Recommendations: Recommend dental hygiene products to patients.
- Computer Skills: Proficient in basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook (email and contact management preferred).
- Dental Technology: Familiarity with dental technology, dental health maintenance, infection control, health promotion, and maintenance.
