Apprentice Inpatient Coder

University Hospital, Newark NJ is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Apprentice Inpatient Coder to join our team. As an Apprentice Inpatient Coder, you will play a critical role in reviewing hospital inpatient medical records and assigning accurate ICD-10 diagnosis codes and procedure codes.
Key Responsibilities- Review and analyze inpatient medical records to assign accurate ICD-10 codes
- Utilize established hospital inpatient coding guidelines and Coding Clinic resources to ensure compliance with national coding guidelines
- Develop and maintain knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology, as well as disease processes and coding regulations
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure accurate and efficient coding practices
- Stay up-to-date with changes in coding regulations and guidelines
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Successful completion of ICD-10 training and skill assessment
- Prior ICD-10 coding experience preferred, but not required
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Outlook, and shared files
