Job Summary

University Hospital, Newark NJ is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Apprentice Inpatient Coder to join our team. As an Apprentice Inpatient Coder, you will play a critical role in reviewing hospital inpatient medical records and assigning accurate ICD-10 diagnosis codes and procedure codes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and analyze inpatient medical records to assign accurate ICD-10 codes
  • Utilize established hospital inpatient coding guidelines and Coding Clinic resources to ensure compliance with national coding guidelines
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology, as well as disease processes and coding regulations
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure accurate and efficient coding practices
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in coding regulations and guidelines
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Successful completion of ICD-10 training and skill assessment
  • Prior ICD-10 coding experience preferred, but not required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Outlook, and shared files
