Job Title: Certified Peer Specialist

Wisconsin Community Services is seeking a Certified Peer Specialist to join our team. As a Certified Peer Specialist, you will work with individuals in the Racine and Kenosha communities to provide peer support services and help them achieve their recovery goals.

Job Summary:

The Certified Peer Specialist will work one-on-one with individuals to identify their needs and develop a plan to achieve their recovery goals. You will provide support and guidance to help individuals navigate the mental health and substance use systems, and connect them with resources and services to support their recovery.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Link individuals to self-determined supports and services, including traditional mental health services, mutual aid support groups, and natural supports.
  • Have contact with individuals a minimum of four times per month, with two of these contacts made in person.
  • Provide 1:1 peer support services to individuals in the Racine and Kenosha communities.
  • Assist individuals in exploring goals and priorities, and collaborate on the creation of a Needs Assessment to receive support for the duration of program enrollment.
  • From a recovery perspective, provide a strength-based review of an individual's abilities, strengths, and assets.
  • Encourage individuals to become the expert of their own lived experiences and develop voice and choice around service participation.
  • Support individuals in navigating systems of care and encourage the participant to communicate with other services providers, including Probation Agents.
  • Responsible for accurate documentation and maintaining case files as required by agency policy, government regulations, and applicable local, state, and federal codes.
  • Communicate and collaborate with assigned Probation Agents on a bi-weekly basis, at minimum, to share updates on progress being made towards recovery goals.
  • Work with the participants' collateral and community contacts to promote continuity of care with written and explicit consent to support their recovery journey.
  • Assist participants in their process of stabilization and recovery.
  • Provide educational discussions with small groups of participants as needed or requested.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and weekly supervision.
  • Attend in-service training and conferences as required.
Requirements:
  • High school or GED/HSED required.
  • Graduate of state Certified Peer Specialist training.
  • Current Certified Peer Specialist certification.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Personal experience with mental health and substance use needs and knowledge of recovery principles.
  • Meet all WCS and contractor requirements for criminal and caregiver background, driver's record, and reference checks.
  • Valid driver's license, automobile, and sufficient insurance to meet agency requirements.
Working Conditions:

The Certified Peer Specialist will work 40 hours per week, with some flexibility to meet the needs of the program. Some work will be done sitting at a desk and using the computer, while other work will be done in the community with individuals.
