Job Overview

This opportunity offers a comprehensive training program for drivers with at least one year of commercial driving experience. The selected candidates will undergo rigorous training to enhance their skills and knowledge, ensuring they meet the high standards set by Smithfield Foods.

Job Description
As a CDL Driver Trainee, you will be responsible for safely operating a tractor-trailer unit, transporting feed, and performing various duties related to loading and unloading animals. Your primary focus will be on following required and recommended safety procedures while driving, adhering to all DOT rules and regulations, and reporting any accidents promptly through proper authorities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Familiarize yourself with Smithfield's emergency notification process and know who to contact in case of an emergency.
  • Perform pre-trip inspections, including climbing into the engine area, bending, stooping, and crawling to complete checks.
  • Operate a manual transmission tractor and roll up and down landing gear when needed.
  • Load and unload animals, ensuring animal welfare remains the top priority.


Qualifications
  • Current Class A CDL license.
  • At least 21 years old.
  • Acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to obtain a DOT medical card upon hire.

Estimated Salary Range: $60,000 - $80,000 per year
