We are seeking a highly skilled Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join our team at the University of Texas at Austin. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting quantitative analysis of state administrative data, implementing and evaluating an online course plug-in, and mentoring graduate and undergraduate research assistants.
Key Responsibilities- Access, clean, and analyze Texas administrative ERC data on test scores, coursework, higher education experiences, and labor market outcomes;
- Prepare replication code, article manuscripts, conference presentations, and policy briefs related to research findings;
- Assist with implementation and evaluation of the online Canvas course plug-in (e.g., analyzing quantitative and qualitative feedback from student users, preparing manuscripts about this process for teaching-focused outlets);
- Help lead a research team of graduate and undergraduate students who will also assist Professor Conwell and the Postdoctoral Scholar with these tasks.
- Ph.D. in Sociology, Education, or a related field by appointment start date, and received no earlier than three years prior to the start date;
- Ability to work in Stata;
- Strong quantitative analysis skills, including data cleaning, linkages, and coding; regression analysis and advanced methods; familiarity with current best practices for preregistration and replication;
- Prior experience with state administrative education data and/or national secondary data common to social science research on education;
- Demonstrated ability to conduct independent and collaborative social science research;
- Willingness to mentor graduate and undergraduate research assistants.
- Prior research on the topics of high school coursetaking and test scores; higher education experiences (college attended, major, courses); and/or labor market experiences (occupation, wages), and familiarity with the types of data (e.g., IPEDS, National Student Clearinghouse) and data linkages needed to understand school-to-work pathways along these lines;
- Prior research on the topics of racial, social class, and gender inequality in education in the United States;
- Interest in higher education evaluation research.
The salary range for this position is $60,000 + depending on qualifications. The University of Texas at Austin offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
