Job DescriptionPosition Overview

University Hospitals is looking for a dedicated Critical Care Nurse Practitioner to become a vital member of our Intensive Care Unit (ICU) team. This role involves working Part Time, with a commitment to ten 12-hour shifts over a 6-week rotation, including Days, Nights, weekends, and holidays. Candidates must be certified as Acute Care Nurse Practitioners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with attending physicians to deliver continuous medical and surgical oversight for critical care services.
  • Manage the comprehensive care of critically ill or injured adult patients in partnership with the intensivist physician on duty.
  • Perform advanced airway management techniques, including endotracheal intubations via direct laryngoscopy and video-assisted laryngoscopy, as well as surgical airway interventions.
  • Work alongside Respiratory Therapists to oversee ventilator management, non-invasive positive pressure ventilation, and high-flow oxygen therapy.
  • Conduct invasive procedures such as central line placements, PICC line insertions, mid-line placements, arterial line insertions, tube thoracostomy, and dialysis catheter placements as necessary.
  • Administer and titrate vasoactive medications, insulin infusions, sedation, and analgesia.
  • Respond to trauma activations in the Emergency Department, including intracranial hemorrhages and aortic syndromes requiring transfer to higher levels of care.
  • Maintain certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) to fulfill the critical care responsibilities outlined above.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Essential Requirements:
Proven competence as a healthcare practitioner
Strong oral and written communication abilities
Familiarity with various technical patient care equipment relevant to the clinical setting
Proficient in computer usage and office equipment

Educational Background:
Nurse Practitioner: Doctorate in Nursing or Master of Science in Nursing with a focus on clinical practice.

Physician Assistant: Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant training program with NCCPA certification.

Required Credentials, Licensure, or Certification:
Nurse Practitioner: BLS certification required; ACLS preferred; Current Registered Nurse license in Ohio; Current APRN license in Ohio.

Physician Assistant: BLS certification required; ACLS preferred; NCCPA-Certified; DEA license.
