About this opportunity: The role involves receiving, categorizing, pricing, and preparing donated goods for display in the retail space; evaluating the appropriateness and pricing of items based on set criteria; assisting in maintaining the organization and cleanliness of the retail and sorting areas; aiding customers in donating, selecting, and purchasing items; operating and managing a cash register; addressing customer inquiries.

Key responsibilities:
  • Receives, examines, and categorizes donated goods such as clothing, footwear, household items, and miscellaneous items according to their category and condition; selects items suitable for retail display and allocates them to the appropriate area for further categorization and/or pricing; disposes of items following established protocols.
  • Assists customers in purchasing items by processing sales through a cash register; collects payments, counts change, and issues receipts; prepares and packages purchased items; balances the cash drawer and performs routine register print-outs; ensures the security and accountability of all cash register funds and sales records in line with established operating procedures.
  • Maintains the tidiness and security of the cash register area; ensures that necessary forms, bags, etc. are sufficiently stocked; keeps the warehouse area orderly; cleans floors, tables, and workspaces.
  • Labels items with specially coded tags and/or prices according to established guidelines; hangs clothing on hangers and arranges them on clothing racks.
What is sought after:
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
  • One year of prior experience preferred, or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Ability to meet attendance expectations. Proficiency in reading, writing, and effectively communicating in English. Capability to operate a cash register, perform basic mathematical calculations, and count change. Ability to engage in continuous walking, bending, standing, and some climbing. Duties are primarily performed while standing, with occasional opportunities for sitting. Moderate physical effort is required, involving walking, standing, lifting, bending, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, and carrying light to heavy items (up to 50 lbs.).

Working Conditions: Work is occasionally conducted in a standard retail environment with minimal physical discomforts related to weather changes or noise, dust, dirt, etc. Work may also occur in a typical warehouse setting where physical discomforts may arise due to changes in weather or exposure to noise, dust, dirt, and similar factors.
