Job Overview: Under direct supervision, the Coastal Lifeguard I is tasked with all lifeguarding and monitoring responsibilities along Clearwater Beach. This role involves providing education, assisting patrons with medical needs, and ensuring that all safety protocols are adhered to.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervises, monitors, and observes beachgoers swimming, relaxing on the beach, and engaging in water activities; executes lifesaving techniques, first aid, and emergency response procedures.
  • Conducts patrols of the beach area on foot, ATV, work mule, personal watercraft, and from an observation tower; scans the beach for individuals in peril, those requiring assistance, and for adverse weather conditions.
  • Prepares and oversees the lifeguard tower; informs the public about various city events.
  • Identifies patrons needing medical assistance and lifesaving support; collaborates with parents and law enforcement in cases of missing children.
  • Administers basic first aid and CPR; manages radio communications for prompt and effective emergency responses.
  • Maintains optimal physical fitness; performs additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • A valid State driver's license is required.
  • Must hold valid First Aid and CPR Certifications.
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification or completion of a minimum 40-hour lifeguard training program from an organization recognized by the United States Lifesaving Association is essential.
  • Must be capable of swimming 500 meters in under 10 minutes and running 1 mile in under 18 minutes.
Education and Experience: High School Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate PLUS one (1) year of open water lifeguarding experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
