Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Fleet Deckhand to join our team at Ingram Barge Company. As a Fleet Deckhand, you will play a critical role in supporting our fleeting operations in the maritime industry.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist deck crew in tow building, including laying wires, tightening ratchets, sweeping, and shoveling barges.
  • Perform daily vessel housekeeping, including sweeping, mopping, and cleaning crew living quarters.
  • Assist with locking and carrying rigging, pumps, hoses, and lines.
  • Work outdoors for extended periods in various weather conditions.
  • Inspect barges for water and leaks, which may require climbing into confined spaces.
  • Maintain vessel appearance through washing, chipping, and painting.
  • Assist the Engineer as needed.
  • Practice safe crew, vessel, and tow operation using Ingram safety systems.
  • Participate in safety drills and audits.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

  • Ability to work away from home for extended periods (21-, 14-, or 7-day hitches).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to respond quickly in unexpected circumstances.

  • Strong communication skills within all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to demonstrate teamwork and acceptance of diversity.
  • Must be able to read and write the English language to comply with USCG regulatory requirements.
  • Must obtain a valid TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential).
  • Pass a post-offer process if an offer is made (background check, drug screen, and physical).
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 110 pounds for up to 1000 feet.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, often entering through a manhole.
  • Ability to climb a ladder and board and ride in a skiff.
