Job Summary:

The Newport News Public Schools seek a highly skilled and experienced Special Education Program Supervisor to lead the division's special education programs. As a key member of the Student Services team, this individual will be responsible for planning, developing, implementing, and monitoring special education programs for identified schools.

Key Responsibilities:

Supervise and administer division-wide special education programs for identified schools.
Chair eligibility and IEP meetings as assigned by the Executive Director of Student Advancement.
Interpret state and federal regulations governing special education and ensure compliance in assigned special education functional areas.
Assist in curriculum development, implementation, and revision.
Provide guidance in the selection of textbooks and other instructional materials and equipment for the program.

Requirements:

Master's degree and eligibility for a Virginia License in administration and supervision.
Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience with special education populations.
Some experience as a departmental head, lead teacher, or in a related instructional leadership position preferred.
Comprehensive knowledge of the principles, practices, and current issues in the provision of special education programs.
Ability to guide and train teachers in effective instructional techniques and strategies.
Knowledge and effective skills in textbook selection, curriculum development, and budget development.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, students, the community, and administrative staff.
