School Nurse Position

Vancouver Public Schools is seeking a skilled and dedicated School Nurse to join our team. As a School Nurse, you will play a vital role in ensuring the health and well-being of our students.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with school professionals, parents, and caregivers to meet the health, developmental, and educational needs of students.
- Plan and supervise the care of students with acute and chronic health care needs in the school setting.
- Schedule, conduct, and/or supervise health-related screenings, such as hearing and vision tests.
- Work collaboratively with district and health department officials regarding communicable diseases.
- Write and maintain student health plans.
- Participate in meetings for special needs students, as appropriate.
- Travel between school sites may be necessary.
- Work in a flexible and cooperative manner.
- Treat co-workers, supervisors, students, parents, and others with dignity and respect at all times.
- Serve as a positive role model for students, and practice the behaviors that are expected of our students.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance and hours of operation as set by the assigned building/location and the Comprehensive Professional Agreement to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position to achieve program requirements.
- Valid Washington State Educational Staff Associate (ESA) certificate for the role of School Nurse.
- Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited institution of higher learning; master's degree preferred.
- Licensed in the State of Washington as a registered nurse.
- Possess basic public health preparation and field experience.
- Ability to understand procedures and function in a school system with regard to the special part health services play in the overall education of the student.
- Prior experience in public health or public school nursing or pediatric nursing, preferred.
- Experience in health education in personal safety, nutrition, personal hygiene, AIDS education, and/or drug/alcohol/tobacco training, preferred.
- Must possess a valid Washington State driver's license.
- Must provide own transportation.
- Ability to work cooperatively with students and their parents, district staff, and community members who are culturally, racially, and linguistically diverse.
- Advanced ability to use technology as an effective communication, planning, and instructional tool.
- Willingness to participate in professional development courses aligned with the school and district initiatives.
- Salary range: $62,925 - $118,608 (includes Base & TRI enrichment; commensurate upon FTE, degree, credits, and experience).
- Additional Compensation: Certificated positions may have additional pay provisions above what is represented on the salary range, such as TRI professional learning, extended year days, extra appendix E supplemental days, and professional development reimbursement.
- Benefits: Employees who are anticipated to work at least 630 hours may be eligible for health, dental, vision, flexible spending accounts, life, and disability insurance benefits.
- Retirement: Employees may be eligible for retirement benefits through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS). Eligibility is based on FTE.
- Time Off: Includes paid time off, sick, personal, religious, military, and bereavement leave.
- Sick Leave: 8 hours per month (part-time employee accrual will be proportionate to their FTE).
- Personal Leave: 3 days per school year.
