Pet Companion Specialist
The DV Pet Program at A New Leaf plays a vital role in ensuring the welfare of pets belonging to families affected by domestic violence. This position is focused on providing essential care and companionship to animals within the program, prioritizing their safety and comfort throughout their stay.
The specialist will also be responsible for coordinating various pet services, including veterinary care and procurement of pet supplies. Working closely with clients, the specialist will help nurture the human-animal bond, supporting families as they navigate through difficult circumstances. This role is crucial in assisting families and their pets in achieving stability and security in a nurturing environment.
Compensation: Hourly Pay Rate: $20
Schedule: Thursday and Friday; 8am-6pm; Saturday; 8am-5pm
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High School diploma or GED is required.Experience:
Prior experience in animal care is highly preferred. Experience working with populations affected by domestic violence, homelessness, or economic hardship is preferred. Familiarity with community resources is advantageous.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Understand the effects of domestic violence, human trafficking, and trauma, responding appropriately to crisis situations. Collaborate closely with community partners, veterinary hospitals, and rescue organizations. Conduct assessments on new animal intakes, evaluate medical needs, schedule veterinary appointments, and coordinate with staff. Develop behavioral assessments for all new animal intakes. Maintain a constructive relationship with pet owners. Create and implement enrichment activities, basic care routines, and meet the needs of the animals. Assist with animal care tasks such as cleaning kennels/litters, maintaining outdoor areas, training, and grooming. Establish and foster long-term partnerships with other rescue organizations and veterinary clinics. Manage monthly donations and ensure ongoing partnerships with donors. Order necessary supplies and manage exit box materials. Complete accurate documentation in various databases and ensure all program paperwork is handled in a timely and thorough manner. Attend regular meetings, including case reviews, program discussions, and development team gatherings. Work with partner rescues in cases of animal surrenders, utilizing their temporary care programs and other resources. Transport animals using a company vehicle.Compliance/Requirements:
Class One Fingerprint Clearance Card is required. Valid Driver's License with reliable transportation is necessary. Current Auto Liability Insurance is required. 39-Month Motor Vehicle Record must be provided. Candidates must be at least 21 years of age.Other details:
