Facility Information:
Beds: 24 Pre-Op/Phase 2, 19 PACU

Experience Requirements:
Minimum of 1.5 years of nursing experience required.

Patient Demographics:

Care for a diverse patient population ranging from infants to geriatrics. Training will be provided for recovery of infants, although they are not frequently encountered.

Responsibilities include assisting with the preparation and discharge of Endoscopy patients, though Intra-Op duties are not included.

Patient types include Ambulatory/Elective and Acute care/Trauma.



Patient Ratios:

RN:
Pre-Op 1:2-3, PACU 1:1 or 1:2, Phase 2 1:2-4.
Ratios are contingent upon patient acuity, airway presence, age, comorbidities, and special monitoring needs.

Required Certifications:

RN:
BLS, ACLS, PALS certifications are mandatory.

Educational Requirements:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program; Registered Nurse (RN) licensure as per South Dakota Board of Nursing regulations.

Essential Skills:

RN:
Competencies may be acquired during orientation and include: IV insertion, ventilator training, initiation of blood product transfusions, and administration of moderate sedation. Critical thinking skills are essential.

Unit Support Structure:

CNA:

The department is supported by 6 Nurse Aides, with 1-2 assigned to the PreOp unit, 1 in the endoscopy unit, and additional aides in PACU and Phase 2.



Charge Nurse:
A Clinical Resource Nurse (CRN) is available in PreOp and PACU during operational hours.

Nursing staff are responsible for drawing labs or coordinating with facility lab personnel as needed.

The facility has a dedicated IV/VAT Team to assist with IV insertions, and resource nurses are available Monday through Friday.

Respiratory Therapy (RT) support is also accessible as required.

EPIC - Omnicell

Floating Responsibilities:
Floating may occur within the scope of practice as needed across PreOp, PACU, Endo prep and discharge, and Phase 2.
