Job Summary

The State of Idaho is seeking a Recreation Assistant to join our team at the State Veterans Home in Lewiston. This is a temporary position that requires 20-24 hours of work per week. The ideal candidate will implement recreational activities for residents in our long-term care facility.

Responsibilities

  • Implement recreational activities and provide personal nursing care to residents in long-term care.
  • Inform nursing staff of daily observations regarding residents' irregular behavior; attend shift report; follow nursing treatment plans regarding lifting, transferring, feeding, and toileting.
  • Participate in developing individualized activity plans for Veterans Home residents and carry them out with the residents.
  • Monitor and record residents' participation, responses, and progress; complete monthly activity flow sheet for each resident assuring activity plan goals are being met.
  • Work with and guide volunteers assisting with group and one-to-one recreational activities.
  • Assist in preparing residents for outings, drive bus or van to transport residents to community events, and accompany residents to monitor their safety and participation.

Requirements

  • Experience: Providing or assisting with recreational activities in a health care setting or facility, observing and recording changes in residents' behavior, and documenting progress toward treatment goals.
  • Valid driver's license.
