Job Summary
The Medical Imaging Technologist is responsible for conducting radiographic examinations with minimal oversight under the guidance of a Radiologist. This role involves coordinating daily tasks, which include performing imaging procedures and related administrative responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducts and assists with radiographic and fluoroscopic examinations.
- Records patient history relevant to specific procedures as indicated by the physician's requisition.
- Verifies patient identity through verbal confirmation and identification documentation.
- Prepares and administers contrast agents as necessary.
- Collaborates with radiologists and other medical professionals as needed.
- Selects and operates imaging equipment according to the requirements of each procedure, demonstrating proper anatomical positioning techniques.
- Maintains accurate records in accordance with departmental protocols.
Physical Requirements
This position requires significant physical effort, including assisting patients from wheelchairs and stretchers, as well as handling imaging equipment and supplies. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for effective interaction with patients and healthcare staff. The role may involve frequent bending, twisting, squatting, or kneeling while operating imaging equipment. Proficiency in hand coordination for precise manipulation of equipment is necessary, especially when working with patients who are injured or ill. Adequate vision and hearing for distances up to 10 feet are required. The role may expose the individual to various physical conditions, such as walking on hard surfaces, climbing stairs, and being near moving equipment. Adaptability to changes in temperature and humidity is also important.
Qualifications
The Medical Imaging Technologist must perform examinations proficiently while adhering to radiation safety standards to ensure high-quality imaging results with general supervision from the Radiologist. Successful completion of a formal Radiology Technology Program from an accredited institution is required. Registration with the ARRT is mandatory, or if you are a recent graduate, you must be registry-eligible and obtain registration within one year of your hire date. A minimum of one year of direct patient care experience is preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required as per policy guidelines.
